Feeling Overwhelmed

Feeling Overwhelmed Hey everyone, We are now dead in the center of the semester, and things are really starting to pick up for everyone. Tests are coming at students from left and right, papers are starting to be due, and the ever looming finals week is closer than we might want to believe. It is now, more than ever, time for students to buckle down, get some work done, and prepare for the end of the semester. But Kenny, school is really hard right now, and I have work, and then theres never any time to relax and hang out. I just feel overwhelmed! Well guess whatthats normal. College is a time where academic excellence is expected. I mean, why else are we all investing our time, money, and effort into such an enterprise if the goal was not to be successful? However, the concept of feeling overwhelmed is not a new one, nor is it one that is likely to go away. (Found on wellness.winonastateu.com) Though each person deals with stress in different ways, here are a few ways that have proved beneficial to me in my years here at Illinois. 1. Take a nap: Seriously though, after you take an hour or two to recharge your batteries, youll feel rested, refreshed, and ready to kick some butt in the whatever-class you might be in. 2. Set aside some me time: Give yourself some time to do something youve been meaning to do, but havent really gotten around to. Read a book for fun, play some video games, go see a friend. Dont go overboard with the me-time, but at the same time make sure you dont burn yourself out before that final push. 3. Get your work done ahead: Now I know what you might be thinking. How is doing working work going to help me deal with my stress, Kenny? Well heres how. If you get a majority of your workload done and out of the way BEFORE deadlines, thatll leave you all the time in the world to indulge in my first few tips! Just imagine that, endless nap times, or video-game marathons. And its all guilt-free, because you got your work done early! Well I hope this helps you guys out in the future. See you next time, Kenny Kenny Class of 2016 I’m in the Creative Writing program in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. I’m originally from Tampa, Florida, but I’ve been calling Illinois my home since 1998. I’ve lived all over the Northwest suburbs, from Palatine to Lakemoor to where I currently live back home, Mundelein.
